What is the meaning of “spin”?

What is spin?  It’s damn lies is what it is.

Wikipedia says:

In public relations, spin is a form of propaganda, achieved through providing an interpretation of an event or campaign to persuade public opinion in favor or against a certain organization or public figure. While traditional public relations may also rely on creative presentation of the facts, “spin” often, though not always, implies disingenuous, deceptive and/or highly manipulative tactics.

I don’t remember when the word spin crept into the conversation, maybe 10 years ago, maybe longer.  Maybe the news we have gotten in this country has always been spin, I don’t know.  I thought propaganda was something you would hear from a communist or socialist regime, not the United States of America.  How stupid I was.  Stupid.  I wasn’t really paying attention.

But whenever it started, it is in full bloom now.  Notice, just notice, how everything that comes from this administration is spin.  But not only from a group of people repeating what some public relations firm tells them to say, but it is coming from the mouth of the President of the United States.  He is lying every time he addresses the American people.

It comes natural to him.  He is a community organizer major with a minor in lawyering.  That spells lie right there.  But you don’t have to go far to get an answer to why it comes so easy for him.  Just back to his mentor, Saul Alinsky, the father of community organizing, who wrote up front in his book “Rules for Radicals” that Lucifer was the first community organizer.  To quote him exactly, he said as an introduction to his book:

“Lest we forget at least an over-the-shoulder acknowledgment to the very first radical: from all our legends, mythology, and history (and who is to know where mythology leaves off and history begins — or which is which), the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom — Lucifer“

When the president came out this morning, he spun a rise in unemployment from 9.7 to 9.9,  as such good news, saying with a straight face this is “very encouraging” and “particularly heartening.”  It defies reason, but that’s what he wants us to believe.  According to the media, more people who had stopped looking for work are now back to looking for jobs.  In other words, those who have been out of work the longest are looking for jobs (or the unemployment ran out).  That makes the unemployment numbers go up.  Ha.  That’s almost funny.

His words are lies and his agenda seems to be to cause confusion and chaos, pitting American against American, stirring up racial and class animosity, calling out certain business and banks as fat cats – certain ones of his choice, and actually attacking the governor of a state, publicly from the White House.  This is appalling and outrageous.

Think about a country in which truth does not matter, a country which really depends on honesty to survive.  That is a big problem because it will not survive if this continues.

At least now we do have people waking up.  Imagine where we would be today if this administration had a free ride and a clear way with nobody paying attention, which is what they expected.  I wondered why the tea party movement has been so violently attacked – viciously attacked.

Easy.  Just watch our mainstream media.  Their role is the attack dogs.  Not the watch dogs they are supposed to be, but actually attacking private citizens.

Media manipulation is an aspect of public relations in which partisans create an image or argument that favours their particular interests. Such tactics may include the use of logical fallacies and propaganda techniques, and often involve the suppression of information or points of view by crowding them out, by inducing other people or groups of people to stop listening to certain arguments, or by simply diverting attention elsewhere.

When I see there is nearly 70 percent of the people against the direction the country is going on many, many issues, it is encouraging.

Those in charge of the “public perception” scream so loud and take up so much space and air, you think there are a lot of them.  Not so.  They are few in number.  Very few.  They are mostly contained within the news media, the White House and Congress, a few paid trolls, and a few who still need to wake up.

We are too passive.  Too polite.  We go along to get along.  We have to start speaking out with boldness.

“He (the Devil) has never been truthful. He doesn’t know what the truth is. Whenever he tells a lie, he’s doing what comes naturally to him. He’s a liar and the father of lies.”

Governor Jan Brewer of Arizona answers our alleged president. Do not back down to a bully.

The joke is on you, Barry.

What about that, Ginger? That Jan Brewer is a stand out woman.

Our president is a shameful so-called leader. To think he has taken the side of illegals against the citizens of a state. There is something bad wrong with this man who acts like a 13 year old.

  4. you touch on the same theme I did on my Earth Day post: propaganda. “Spin.” There is no truth for these people, and no principle. Only doing and saying whatever it takes.

You are right. We have been too passive, too polite. I’ve spent most of my adult life biting my tongue about politics rather than offend. Well no more. Keep on plugging, and I will too!

noone: I have never been more concerned about our country.

Thanks for your comment and I hope you will become a part of the conversation here.
